Understanding NIJ Standards
The National Institute of Justice (NIJ)s body armor is the only national standard for police body armor.
Recognition and acceptance of the NIJ standard has grown worldwide, making it the performance benchmark for ballistic-resistant body armor.

Bulletproof Vests and Plates
The DefendAPack Vest is made of a 1680 Ballistic Denier Nylon and surrounds the entire torso.
The vest can be used with our interchangeable, concealable NIJ certified bulletproof plates, which range in weight from 1.1lbs for NIJ Level IIIA (Kevlar) to 3.3lbs for NIJ level III (Pure PE). For our BASIC Pack, the single plate is attached via Velcro to the back, and is concealed under our patented, hidden panel.

Quality Control and Testing
DefendAPack Bulletproof Vests have undergone rigorous ballistic testing.
During our QA and Control process, our fiber manufacturer tests the fiber and yarn tensile strength, and the fabric weavers test the tensile strength of the resultant cloth. Nonwoven Spectra is also tested for tensile strength by the manufacturer.
Additionally, our Vest and Plate manufacturers have tested both the NIJ Level IIIA and III Plates for strength, and production quality control.
How Does Fabric Stop a Bullet?
Body armor is comprised of very strong non-woven and/or woven fibers. The material will stop a bullet similar to how a net will stop a tennis ball or volleyball. It causes the bullet to turn, slow it down and send its energy through the whole panel. The bullet mushrooms, which helps in the process. Keep in mind that the slower the bullet is, the better off the wearer is going to be. It is important to note that not all body armor can stop a speeding bullet.
Total Customization
DefendAPack®, can be customized by size and levels of protection. In addition, there is an option for an additional plate to be added inside the backpack unit, to serve as a face guard when the vest is in use for further protection.
